Inside the playbook
Six chapters. Six steps.
Each chapter follows one step of the IMPACT System, applied specifically to launching a picture book side hustle. Chapter 1 is free.
Identify
Validate your picture book concept before investing time, money, or energy in the wrong direction. Covers: defining your target audience, mapping the competitive landscape, identifying your publishing angle, and confirming real market demand. The chapter ends with a validated concept and a clear market position — ready to monetize.
Monetize
Build a real revenue model before you make a single page. Covers: pricing strategy, distribution channel options (Amazon KDP, Ingram Spark, direct sales), projected revenue scenarios, and what profitability actually looks like for a picture book side hustle. You finish this chapter with a real revenue model — not a guess.
Productize
Produce the actual book. This is the most picture-book-specific chapter in the playbook. Covers: finding and briefing an illustrator, manuscript development, page layout and design, file preparation for print-on-demand, ISBN registration, and proof review. The goal is a shippable, sellable book — done.
Activate
Get your first sales without a launch plan, a big email list, or a marketing budget. Covers: pre-sales to your immediate network, early-reader outreach, collecting first reviews, and the micro-launch framework. The goal: revenue in before you've built an audience.
Campaign
Build the distribution and audience systems that generate ongoing sales. Covers: Amazon listing optimization, organic content strategy for discovery, email list building, and paid promotion testing. The shift from "selling copies" to "building a repeatable sales engine."
Triumph
Close the loop on the side hustle. Review revenue, costs, and results against the original Monetize plan. Identify what worked, what to cut, and what to scale. Decide whether to write another book, expand the concept, or stay at this level — with a documented decision and a clear next step.
How it works
"Not a finished course.
A live document."
TADROBERT is working through this playbook step by step — in real time. The decisions documented here aren't theoretical. They're the actual moves made to build an actual picture book side hustle. You're not reading about what might work. You're following what is working.
When you buy the playbook, you get every chapter that's been documented — plus everything added as each next step is completed. The community is where you ask questions and stay current as the work progresses.

Questions
Common questions
Do I need to have a finished idea before I start?
You need a general direction — "I want to make a picture book about [topic]" — but that's all. Chapter 1 (Identify) is specifically designed to help you validate and sharpen the idea before you commit to anything. You don't need a finished concept to get started.
Do I need to be able to illustrate?
No. Chapter 3 (Productize) covers exactly how to find, brief, and work with an illustrator — including what to look for, how to structure the agreement, and how to manage the process. Your job is the concept and story. Someone else handles the artwork.
What is the community, and how does it work?
It's a private community hosted on Heartbeat. Access is included when you purchase the playbook. TADROBERT is active there — ask questions at any step, share your progress, and get feedback as you work through each chapter.
Is the playbook complete, or is it still being documented?
Both. The playbook is a live document — TADROBERT is actively working through each step in real time. Chapters are documented and released as the work is completed. When you purchase, you get immediate access to everything that's been released, plus all future chapters as they're added.
Do I need the free IMPACT System first?
Not required, but recommended. The IMPACT System explains the full six-step framework at a high level — understanding it first gives context that makes each chapter of the playbook sharper. It's free and takes about 20 minutes to read.
Is this only for picture books, or can I use it for other types of books?
This playbook is built specifically for picture books — every step, every example, and every worksheet is picture-book-specific. The Productize chapter especially goes deep on picture book production. If you're self-publishing a different type of book, the underlying IMPACT System framework still applies, but this playbook won't be a perfect fit.
